A Boy’s Promise From a Poultry Shed to the SkyA TALE OF TWO WORLDS

The Spark Within

The Spark Within

In a small rural village, where dusty roads stretched between tiny houses and the mornings began with the sound of roosters, a little boy began his journey. His school was not a grand building with painted walls and shining windows. It was a simple poultry shed, standing quietly at the edge of the village. The smell of hay and earth filled the air, and the roof was made of old tin sheets that rattled when the wind blew. Yet, for the children who studied there, it was a place of hope.

The boy was only five years old when he first walked into that shed with his elder sister. Every morning, before the sun rose fully into the sky, they would begin their three kilometer walk to school. Barefoot on some days, holding his sister’s hand tightly, he walked with determination far greater than his small body. His family was poor. So were the families of the other children who sat beside him on the rough wooden benches. They had no fancy bags, no colorful books, no proper classrooms. But they had something stronger — the desire to learn.

While other children played during breaks, the little boy often stood outside the shed and looked up at the sky. The wide blue sky fascinated him. Birds flying freely above made his heart race with a strange excitement.

One day, he asked his sister softly,
“Akka… do you think I can fly like that one day?”
She smiled, not knowing how serious his question was.
“Study well first,” she replied gently. “Then you can become anything.”

But his dream was already bigger than he could explain.
He did not just want to fly. He wanted to see the sea — the endless water he had only heard about in stories. He wanted to walk on beaches, feel the wind on high hills, and travel across villages he had never seen. In his innocent heart, he imagined himself flying a plane above mountains and oceans, looking down at the world he longed to explore.

He did not know what it meant to become a pilot. He did not know how much education, money, or effort it required. He only knew one thing — the dream felt
real inside him.
However, life around him was not easy. His parents struggled every day to earn enough for food and basic needs. Sometimes there was worry in their voices at
night when they thought he was asleep. Even at his young age, he could sense their financial difficulties.

Slowly, another thought grew in his mind.
“If I study well,” he told himself, “I can help my family first.”
That became his first small dream — to overcome his family’s financial struggles. He believed that once
he helped his parents live without worry, he could chase the bigger dream waiting in his heart. Days turned into months. Months turned into years. The poultry shed remained small, the roads remained dusty, and the struggles remained real.
But so did his dream.
Every time he looked at the sky, he reminded himself:
“Don’t forget. One day.”
And deep inside, the boy who studied in a poultry shed promised himself that no matter how long it took, he would never let that dream fade — not until he achieved it.

“And somewhere between poverty and promise, a dream began to grow wings.”
